Healing words: Revitalizing the earth through story
The path of the storyteller is a path of the heart, speaking a language of the soul. In subtle and grand images, ancient myths tell of how the world was created, bringing meaning and context to all things. Many who open their mouths and speak forth a story, come to realize with wonder, the deep connection between stories and the living earth and cosmos around us. Fairytales and good stories reverberate with this wisdom of creation behind the facade of our daily lives.
Today we have an environmental crisis that comes out of our lost connection with the living earth. The symptoms are manifold: depression, anxiety, pollution, truancy, conflict, just to name a few. Fixing it from the outside is not enough. As human beings, however, we have a core relationship to the earth as our birthright. This means we carry within us true knowledge of how to help. But how to access it?
We are used to relaxing in the arms of nature and drawing sustenance from this great home of ours, with its bountiful forests, crystal lakes, soaring eagles and whale´s fin. But what if she is able to draw sustenance from us? How about turning our attention to her as a living, cosmic intelligent being with needs and tasks of her own that can be supported and nurtured? How about getting into conversation with her, thus working with deeper aspects of the environmental chaos we see around us?
Every human being can develop their inner connection to the earth as a living being, thereby strengthening the individual´s health and the vitality of the planet. A potent way of doing this is through storytelling and the spoken word with the faculties this entails. During this workshop we will explore the natural surroundings of Marjatta, working with creative imagination, spontaneous storytelling and old folktales. Listening to the voice of the earth can help us become co-creators of a future full of potential and promise.
